Paris 2024: Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte makes United States men's Olympic team

Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte has officially been named to the United States men's national team Olympic roster, the club confirmed during the pregame of Columbus' matchup against Toronto FC on Saturday.

Before the game, the Crew honored Schulte for being selected to the 18-player roster that will head to Paris to represent Team USA in men's soccer. With the Olympics set to start on July 26, and the team taking part in a training camp prior to the start of the games, the Toronto game will be Schulte's last home match for Columbus before departing.

Schulte most recently was called up to the USMNT U-23 June training camp and was the starting goalkeeper in the friendly against Japan on June 11. The 23-year-old also has experience with the United State men's senior team, attending his first senior training camp in January of this year, but since Schulte was born in March 2001, he clears the age requirement to compete for the Olympic team.

Due to when the Olympic are played, Schulte will miss the first two rounds of Leagues Cup play, but could possibly be available by the quarterfinals, if the Crew make it that far into the tournament. Nicholas Hagen is currently Columbus' backup goalkeeper and is expected to play while Schulte is on international duty.
