Panthers elevate DL DeShawn Williams for Week 3 matchup vs. Raiders
The Carolina Panthers have called up some much-needed reinforcements for the trenches.
On Saturday afternoon, the team announced that they have elevated defensive lineman DeShawn Williams from the practice squad ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Williams, who was signed to the practice squad back on Sept. 10, spent last season with the Panthers. The 6-foot-1, 295-pounder started in 10 of his 16 games for Carolina in 2023—recording 33 combined tackles, 1.0 sack, seven quarterback hits and a pass defensed.
His presence may be needed in the absence of starter Shy Tuttle, who has now been ruled out of tomorrow's contest. Tuttle, who was listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report due to a foot issue, will not travel with the team out west.
Carolina could also be missing another starting defensive lineman in A'Shawn Robinson, who carries a "questionable" status into the contest. Robinson (knee) put in a pair of limited practices on Thursday and Friday after not participating in Wednesday's session.
Not to mention, the unit will continue to be without Pro Bowler Derrick Brown due to his season-ending meniscus tear.
