NORMAN — The OU men's basketball team secured its first transfer portal commitment of the offseason, and it's a big one.

Siena transfer Javian McCollum announced his commitment to the Sooners on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 15.9 points and 3.9 assists as a sophomore this past season.

Ranked by 247Sports as the 10th-best remaining player in the transfer portal, McCollum is expected to have an instant impact with the Sooners. He's an efficient scorer who shot 35.6% from deep this past season, and he has good floor vision.

The addition of McCollum is a welcomed sight for OU, which has been decimated by the transfer portal.

After going 15-17 (5-13 Big 12) last season, the Sooners have watched seven players either enter the portal or declare for the upcoming NBA Draft. That list includes senior point guard Grant Sherfield, who averaged a team-high 15.9 points this past season before declaring for the draft while also entering the portal.

McCollum will help fill that void. The soon-to-be junior guard has a high ceiling, and he can now grow alongside OU's sophomore guard duo of Milos Uzan and Otega Oweh.
