OU football RB Tawee Walker enters transfer portal after two seasons with Sooners

Oklahoma Sooners running back Tawee Walker (29) runs for a touchdown beside TCU Horned Frogs linebacker Jamoi Hodge (6) during a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the TCU Horned Frogs at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.

NORMAN — OU lost a key piece to its backfield on Thursday when running back Tawee Walker entered the transfer portal.

The walk-on junior racked up 95 carries for 496 yards and seven touchdowns this season. It was a breakout campaign for the Las Vegas native, who began his career at the junior college level.

"I want to thank the whole coaching staff at the University of Oklahoma," Walker said via X, formerly Twitter. "I want to thank all the fans and everyone who supported me through my journey. I have loved my time here and will always love the university."

Walker hit the ground running for OU this season by recording 21 carries for 117 yards in a Week 2 win over SMU, but he saw his role decline towards the end of the campaign. He didn't record more than five carries in any of OU's last three games.

Walker is the fourth OU offensive player to enter the transfer portal in the month of November. He joins offensive lineman Marcus Hicks, wide receiver D.J. Graham and tight end Jason Llewellyn.
