Ole Miss football won't host Wake Forest in 2025 after Demon Deacons 'buy out' game
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. − Ole Miss football beat Wake Forest soundly on Saturday, thanks to big contributions from quarterback Jaxson Dart, receiver Tre Harris and the defense. Don't expect a rematch.
The Demon Deacons were slated to play at Ole Miss on Sept. 13, 2025 to complete a home-and-home scheduling arrangement.
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said after the Rebels' 40-6 win on Saturday that Wake Forest had elected to "buy out" the return trip.
An Ole Miss athletics staff member confirmed the news to the Clarion Ledger.
The contract with Wake Forest was signed in 2014. According to the terms of the deal, if either team opts out of a game it would pay a $1,000,000 cancelation fee.
The game against Wake Forest in 2025 also fulfilled the SEC's mandate to play at least one game against a power conference program.
With Saturday's win, Ole Miss recorded its first victory against Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons lead the all-time series 2-1.
