Ole Miss baseball star Andrew Fischer enters transfer portal
OXFORD — Andrew Fischer, arguably the most notable bright spot on Ole Miss baseball's 2024 roster, is in the transfer portal, a source told the Clarion Ledger on Saturday.
The source was granted anonymity because Fischer had not made an official announcement.
Fischer arrived in Oxford for the 2024 season from Duke, where he began his collegiate career. He slugged 20 home runs and recorded a 1.030 OPS on his way to second-team All-SEC honors.
He began the season at third base, but after some defensive struggles, closed out the season serving primarily as the Rebels' designated hitter. With him out of the picture, Ole Miss will be losing three of last season's most productive hitters — Jackson Ross and Ethan Lege are both out of eligibility.
As of Saturday, coach Mike Bianco had landed one offensive transfer in BYU catcher Collin Reuter. Former St. Joe's pitcher Will McCausland also announced his commitment to the Rebels on Friday.
This past season, Ole Miss missed the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row, posting a 27-29 record. The Rebels averaged the second-fewest runs per game of any SEC team.
