Ole Miss baseball score updates vs Texas A&M: Rebels host Aggies in SEC series

OXFORD — Ole Miss baseball will be out to score a vital series win when it welcomes No. 2 Texas A&M to Swayze Field for a three-game set beginning Friday night.

The Rebels (25-23, 9-15 SEC) are running out of time to make a run at postseason qualification, especially after they lost to Murray State in 15 innings Wednesday. To make matters worse, Ole Miss taxed its bullpen heavily in that contest. Before that, the Rebels took two out of three from last-place Auburn over the weekend.

Texas A&M (41-8, 16-8) stumbled last weekend at LSU, where it lost two of three games. The Aggies bounced back by run-ruling Rice on Tuesday.

Game 1: Ole Miss 4, Texas A&M 3

The game turned on a 3-2 pitch in the eighth inning that Ole Miss' Jackson Ross sent down the left field line into the corner to score Andrew Fischer and knot the game at 3-3. A pair of productive outs later, he was in the dugout, having scored the go-ahead run. Ross drove in a pair of runs and Judd Utermark homered in support of starter Riley Maddox, who pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs while collecting a career-high seven strikeouts.

Game 2: Ole Miss 10, Texas A&M 2

Ole Miss got a gem from its starter for the second-straight game, with Liam Doyle tossing six innings of one-run ball while striking out seven and walking none. The Aggies' staff struggled to find the plate, walking five Rebels and hitting five more. As a result, Ole Miss plated nine runs in the first four innings to put the game away early. Josh Mallitz pitched three strong innings in relief to secure a series win for the Rebels. Reagan Burford went deep on his senior day and drove in three.

Game 3: Texas A&M 6, Ole Miss 0

The Rebels failed to complete their sweep in a listless offensive performance that was also loaded with defensive mistakes. Ole Miss could not solve Texas A&M starter Shane Sdao, who pitched seven innings and surrendered just four baserunners while striking out six. Mason Nichols kept the Rebels in the game with five innings of one-run ball, but the Ole Miss bullpen faltered upon his departure, with the Aggies notching a three-run sixth inning.
