Ole Miss baseball score updates vs. Hawaii: Live updates as Rebels begin season
Ole Miss baseball will be out to score a season-opening series win when it travels to Hawaii to take on the Rainbow Warriors for a four-game set beginning Friday.
The Rebels are looking to bounce back from their 2023 performance, their worst season in decades, when they went 25-29 overall and failed to qualify for a regional.
Hawaii concluded the 2023 season with a 29-20 record, including an 18-12 conference mark that was good enough for fifth place in the Big West.
Game 1: Ole Miss 5, Hawaii 4.
Ole Miss needed 13 innings to beat Hawaii on opening night, but they got it done on Ethan Lege's clutch, run-scoring single. Ethan Groff homered on his way to a three-hit, three-RBI performance, and the Rebels' bullpen pitched 9.2 innings of one-run ball in relief of starter JT Quinn, who went 3.1 innings and allowed three earned runs.
Game 2: Ole Miss 5, Hawaii 2.
The Rebels went ahead in the second inning and never lost their grip on the lead in a routine, seven-inning victory. Bo Gatlin and Andrew Fischer homered, while junior college addition Gunnar Dennis went four innings and allowed two runs in his first Ole Miss start. True freshman Wes Mendes closed the game out with three hitless innings.
Game 3: Hawaii 9, Ole Miss 1.
The Rainbow Warriors managed a split of Saturday's doubleheader by touching up Ole Miss starter Grayson Saunier for five runs in 3.2 innings. The bullpen duo of Mitch Murrell and Liam Doyle wasn't much better, and the Ole Miss offense managed just three hits.
Game 4: Hawaii 13, Ole Miss 4.
The Rebels turned in a disastrous effort to close out the series as they settled for a split. A stretched bullpen allowed eight runs in eight innings in relief of starter Riley Maddox, who allowed three earned runs in two innings. Ole Miss managed just five hits, and its defense collapsed, too, committing six errors.
