Oklahoma State softball shuts out Texas in series opener behind Lexi Kilfoyl's gem
Lexi Kilfoyl pitched a shutout and the eighth-ranked Oklahoma State softball team hit three home runs to beat No. 2 Texas 5-0 on Thursday in Stillwater.
Karli Godwin put OSU on the scoreboard first with a solo homer in the first inning.
Tallen Edwards followed with a solo shot in the bottom of the third to make it 2-0. Micaela Wark added a two-run double later in the third to make it 4-0 Cowgirls.
Wark added an insurance run for the Cowgirls (28-5, 8-2 Big 12) with a solo homer in the fifth.
Kilfoyl improved to 12-2 on the season by scattering seven hits and one walk, to go along with seven strikeouts.
Joley Mitchell had two hits to lead the Longhorns (28-4, 8-2).
Game 2 of the series is 7 p.m. Friday.
