Oklahoma State softball vs BYU recap: Cougars stun Cowgirls in Big 12 Tournament
Coach Kenny Gajewski and the third-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls face BYU in their Big 12 softball tournament opener on Thursday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.

The Cowgirls will go 1-2-3 in the seventh. OSU will now await the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night (6 p.m., ESPN2).

End 6: BYU 7, OSU 2 | Cowgirls facing a short stay at Big 12 Tournament without epic comeback
Back-to-back doubles by Tallen Edwards and Caroline Wang have the Cowgirls in business with one out. It's 7-1 BYU.
Rosie Davis added an RBI single, but the Cowgirls couldn't tack on any more runs.
The Cowgirls are down 7-2 with three outs to play with

Top 6: BYU 7, OSU 0 | Defensive miscues cost Cowgirls dearly
The Cowgirls committed two more errors and the Cougars added two more runs in the top of the sixth to pad their lead. It's 7-0 BYU. OSU will need to get its offense going in a hurry.

Bottom 5: Leadoff single wasted
OSU goes to the sixth inning trailing 5-0 after failing to take advantage of Claire Timm’s leadoff single in the fifth.
Timm advanced to second, but a pair of popouts doomed the inning.

Top 5: BYU goes in order
OSU pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl made quick work of BYU in the fifth inning, putting the Cougars down in order and getting the Cowgirls back to the plate while trying to dig out of a 5-0 hole.

Bottom 4: Another empty inning
OSU went down in order in the fourth and is running out of chances to cut into BYU’s 5-0 lead.
Lexi Kilfoyl, who took over in the circle last inning, is back out there for the fifth.

Top 4: BYU extends lead
The Cowgirls fell into a 5-0 hole heading to the bottom of the fourth.
One run scored on an OSU error when catcher Caroline Wang couldn’t hang onto the ball when trying to tag out a sliding runner at home plate. Two more came in on a single by Ailana Agbayani.

Bottom 3: Running mistake costs Cowgirls
The third inning ended with OSU still trailing 2-0, despite the Cowgirls getting a couple baserunners. Megan Bloodoworth ran herself out of scoring position trying to go from first to third on a single by Jilyen Poullard. The throw came in ahead of her and she stopped midway between second and third, getting in a rundown before being tagged out.
Tallen Edwards lined out for the final out of the inning immediately afterward.

Top 3: Rosenberry fields her position
OSU pitcher Ivy Rosenberry got out of the inning with quick hands on a low hopper back at the circle, snagging it and throwing to first for the out. After giving up a triple and hitting a batter in the second inning, Rosenberry looked more settled in the third.

Bottom 2: OSU goes down quietly
BYU maintained its 2-0 lead with a couple of strikeouts by left-hander Chloe Temples, who used her changeup to get both final strikes.

Top 2: BYU on the board
BYU took a 2-0 lead with good hitting and a couple OSU miscues. A one-out triple by Hailey Morrow set up the Cougars to post the first run of the day. She scored on a single up the middle by Lily Owens for a 1-0 lead.
Owens came around to score on a two-out error by OSU shortstop Megan Bloodworth on a grounder that would have ended the inning.

Bottom 1: Nothing for Cowgirls
Tallen Edwards hit a soft single to right-center field with one out, but was stranded at first base. No score after one inning.

Top 1: Three up, three down for BYU
OSU pitcher Ivy Rosenberry kept everything in the infield for her first three outs of the day, retiring BYU in order with a pair of groundouts and a pop-out to shortstop.
