Oklahoma softball's Tiare Jennings hits 2-run home run vs. Texas, Longhorns' first runs allowed in WCWS

Tiare Jennings wasted no time giving No. 2 overall seed Oklahoma a lead in Game 1 of the Women's College World Series championship series over No. 1 overall Texas.

After Jayda Coleman got on base with a hit by a pitch to lead off the game, Jennings lined a shot over the right-center field wall to give the Sooners a 2-0 lead on Wednesday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City on her 22nd birthday. It was Jennings's 98th career home run and the first runs that Texas had allowed during the WCWS. The Sooners are aiming for the first four-peat in NCAA softball tournament history.

Texas freshman star pitcher Teagan Kavan pitched two complete game shutouts against Stanford, allowing just two hits in 14 innings, 15 strikeouts and five walks.

The home run was Jennings's 25th of the season, the third in the WCWS and her sixth in the NCAA Softball Tournament. She entered Wednesday third all-time on the career home run list, trailing just Miami (Ohio)'s Karli Spaid (103 home runs) and former OU teammate Jocelyn Alo (122 home runs) for the most all-time. Jennings now has 11 career home runs in the WCWS.

Jennings potentially has two more games to become just the third player in NCAA Softball history to eclipse 100 career home runs. In May, she was selected third overall in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball College Draft.

Coleman had hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning on Tuesday in a winner-take-all semifinal against Florida to send the Sooners to the championship series.
