Thunder forward Aleksej Pokusevski will miss at least the first week of the regular season after suffering a right ankle sprain during a workout Tuesday.

Pokusevski will be reevaluated in six weeks, the Thunder said.

Given that timetable, Pokusevski will be out until at least Nov. 1, five games into the Thunder’s season.

Pokusevski will miss all of training camp and will not play in a preseason game.

It’s an unfortunate development for Pokusevski as he enters the last year of his rookie contract.

The 21-year-old from Serbia has struggled to stay healthy. Earlier this summer, Poku was sidelined for at least four to six weeks after suffering a small fracture in his right arm. Both that injury and this recent ankle sprain happened during a workout.

On top of that, the skilled 7-footer is coming off a season in which he played just 34 games, mostly due to a left leg fracture that cost him two months.

He’s averaged just 47 games played in his first three NBA seasons. Pokusevski has averaged 7.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in his career. He’s been an inefficient scorer, shooting 39% from the field and 30% from 3-point range.
