Ohio State's Bruce Thornton unlikely to play vs. Nebraska due to migraine
Ohio State is likely to be without sophomore guard and captain Bruce Thornton for Thursday night's game with Nebraska.
Thornton, listed as questionable on the official availability report issued by the league, is questionable with a migraine.
Since his arrival at Ohio State, Thornton has been a starter in all 63 games. It's the longest such streak to open a career since Michael Redd started all 96 games during his three-year career from 1998-2000. This season, Thornton leads the Buckeyes in scoring (16.2 points per game), assists (117) and minutes per game (33.7).
He's ninth in the Big Ten in scoring, 10th in assists and first in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.66).
Thornton's likely absence will force interim coach Jake Diebler to continue to get creative with lineups, as he has done in his first three games after taking over for Chris Holtmann. Without Thornton, fifth-year Baylor transfer guard Dale Bonner, who hit the game-winning last-second shot at Michigan State, is a likely candidate to join the starting lineup.
It could also mean more time for sophomore Roddy Gayle Jr. on the ball as well as increased backcourt opportunities for freshmen Scotty Middleton and Taison Chatman.
Sophomore Evan Mahaffey has also assumed some ball-handling responsibilities this season and could be an option
