Ohio State lands commitment from Richmond Heights 2025 guard Dorian Jones
RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Ohio State has landed its first commitment for the 2025 class.
Dorian Jones, a four-star guard from Richmond Heights announced his commitment to the Buckeyes at a press conference held in an atrium just outside of the gym at his high school. Ohio State was among the first schools to offer the 6-4, 190-pound combo guard, and it hosted him on an official visit in mid-May.
"It feels pretty good," Jones told The Dispatch, leaning against the wall separating the gym and atrium. "I had a couple people ask me if it felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders, but I said actually, no. I've still got to get ready for college, and that's like a whole new level of ball."
He emerged as a priority recruit for coach Chris Holtmann, and that continued as Jake Diebler was named as his replacement during the 2023-24 season.

Jones chose the Buckeyes from a list of finalists that also included Michigan, Rutgers and Missouri after receiving more than two dozen scholarship offers. He took official visits to see the Scarlet Knights and Tigers but not the Wolverines.
On a blue-covered table, hats featuring Missouri, Michigan, Ohio State and Rutgers were aligned left to right. Jones wore a gray sweatshirt with "ye must be born again" written in white letters. Jones made the announcement surrounded by friends and teammates, many of whom were filming on their phones.
Once he made the announcement, most of them removed outer layers of clothing to show Ohio State clothing underneath.
"I'm a very proud mom," Jones' mother, Alicia McDonald, said. "I'm very excited, and I just can't wait to see what the future holds for him."
As a junior, Jones earned first-team all-Ohio honors in Division IV after averaging 14.1 points and helping Richmond Heights win a state championship. In the 62-35 win against Berlin Hiland, Jones had 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting and added three rebounds, two steals and one assist in 25:04. Jones is a four-star prospect, the No. 60 national player in his class, the No. 13 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 2 player from Ohio in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.com.
"He's a sponge," Richmond Heights coach Quentin Rogers said. "He absorbs everything you tell him as far as basketball and off the court. Great defender. Real active. Good shooter. And he's a winner."
Ohio State has one commitment for the 2026 class in Marcus Johnson, a five-star guard in the 247Sports composite from Garfield Heights, Ohio.
