Ohio State football coach Ryan Day updates status of defensive tackle Tyleik Williams

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said defensive tackle Tyleik Williams remains "day to day" with an undisclosed injury.

During his weekly news conference, Day said he expects Williams to participate in practice with the Buckeyes later Tuesday afternoon, but did not say if he might return for their Big Ten opener at Michigan State later this week.

“He’ll be out there today,” Day said. “We’ll see how it goes.”

Williams, the Buckeyes’ most experienced interior defensive lineman, was unavailable when they wrapped up their nonconference schedule last Saturday with a 49-14 win over Marshall.

Hero Kanu, a redshirt sophomore defensive tackle, started in his place against the Thundering Herd, while Tywone Malone, Kayden McDonald and Jason Moore also rotated.

In wins over Akron and Western Michigan in previous weeks, Williams had nine tackles, including two for a loss, and 1.5 sacks.
