'Not sure Detroit should be allowed to make trades': Reactions to Pistons' latest deal
The Detroit Pistons' already busy trade deadline went to a new level Thursday morning before the 3 p.m. final call.
In their fourth trade of the last 24 hours, the Pistons sent Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks to the New York Knicks in exchange for Quentin Grimes, Malachi Flynn, Evan Fournier, Ryan Arcidiacono and two second-round picks.
The Pistons moved on from two veterans in Burks and Bogdanovic who were solid fixtures in the rotation while picking up Grimes, a capable two-way wing, three players who were on the fringe of the Knicks rotation and two late picks in the future.
BREAKING DOWN THE TRADE: Detroit Pistons send Bojan Bogdanovic, Alec Burks to Knicks for 4 players, 2 draft picks
Burks and Bogdanovic both arrived in Detroit during the 2022 offseason and were two of the most consistent shooters for the Pistons during their one-and-a-half seasons. Burks is averaging 12.2 points and making 39.2% of his 3-pointers. He's on an expiring contract worth $10.5 million, which him an attractive trade target. Bogdanovic is averaging 20.2 points per game and hitting 41.5% of his 3-pointers this season and has one year remaining on his contract for $19 million, but just a small portion of that is guaranteed. He was the Pistons' leading scorer in 2022-23, averaging 21.6 points per game.
The deal has been one of the biggest, if not the biggest, trades so far during the NBA trade deadline hysteria.
However, both Pistons fans and the NBA world, in general, were befuddled by the Pistons' seemingly measly return for two key rotation players who are good shooters from deep and can slot into a playoff rotation for New York.
Not sure Detroit should be allowed to make trades, sign free agents or hire coaches.

I can’t believe how little the Pistons got for Bog and Burks.

Pistons held on to Bojan too long. Definitely could have gotten more for him during last year’s deadline.

Tom Gores breaks down today's Pistons trade:
"If you don't look at the players we got back's scoring, rebounding, assists or defense, they should contribute a lot to the community."— Brookens Institution (@DetroitTankCity) February 8, 2024
Oh nevermind the Knicks got Bogie too. Way more intrigued. More shooting, more scoring, the minutes intrigue me a little bit but shoot boost their bench and options. Counters for 2 on the ball vs. Brunson.

I take back everything. This is a terrible trade for the Pistons.
The Knicks are UP. https://t.co/kDVGXrc3J4— ᵂᴵᴸᴸ (@BiasedHouston) February 8, 2024
The Knicks are big winners.
Needed more scoring and Bogdanovic and Burks fit perfectly next to the engines Brunson and Randle. Both can get hot. Both can create if needed at some time or another to give Brunson a breather.
Crazy how deep New York is now.— Kevin O'Connor (@KevinOConnorNBA) February 8, 2024
I'm taking a stand. If the choice is between Grimes and two seconds or no Grimes and the Pistons get their first round pick back from NY, I'm taking the Grimes deal.
I don't especially care the Pistons can't trade a first, because I don't want them trading first round picks.— Sean Corp (@sean_corp) February 8, 2024
Look, regardless of how much I think the Pistons need that first back, or how absurd I think Troy’s asset management is, Grimes is absolutely an upgrade for the Pistons on the wing for what they need defensively at this point.
— Jasper Apollonia (@BladeCunningham) February 8, 2024
Nah that’s terrible
You had the 2 hottest (non star) commodities on the market and couldn’t even get your own protected first back that’s way more valuable to you than any other team???
Grimes and 2 2nds???— PistonsThoughts (@PistonsThoughts) February 8, 2024
Pistons couldn’t get a first for BOJAN?

Also, expect another deal because the Pistons are way over the roster limit of 15 players.
Pistons have 19 players, which I believe is four over the limit?? pic.twitter.com/DnLHDFpYrT
