Noah Syndergaard's unusual illness gives Mets yet another weird injury
The New York Mets are no strangers to unusual injuries. The club has been defined by them the past few seasons.
While Mets fans have seen their fair share of confusing maladies, what happened to the club Sunday had to have come as a surprise. The team announced Noah Syndergaard would be placed on the disabled list with hand, foot and mouth disease.
How did Noah Syndergaard get hand, foot and mouth disease?
It’s being speculated that Syndergaard may have picked up the ailment while helping out at a kids camp over the All-Star break.

The issue isn’t expected to keep him out for long. Syndergaard will only miss one start, according to the team.
What is hand, foot and mouth disease?
It’s a virus that usually involves rashes and painful blisters. It’s most common among children, but as Syndergaard has shown, adults can get it as well. Hand, foot and mouth disease generally lasts around seven to 10 days, so it’s possible Syndergaard will be able to return following his stint on the disabled list.
Noah Syndergaard is not the only injured Mets player
Over the years, the Mets have developed a reputation as a team that does not handle injuries well. While Syndergaard’s ailment is the most unusual of the bunch, he’s far from the only player on the team struggling with an injury.
Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes told reporters he’s playing through a heel injury that is going to require surgery. Cespedes returned from the disabled list Friday, but was already out of the team’s lineup by Saturday. He’s expected to see a specialist soon.
Todd Frazier, Jay Bruce and Travid d’Arnaud are also currently on the disabled list. Syndergaard has already missed time this season with a finger issue.
