No comment from Raiders, NFL after Brent Musburger mocked Senator Elizabeth Warren's Native American heritage
Brent Musburger is spending his semi-retirement saying whatever the hell he wants.
The former network broadcaster-turned-Oakland Raiders radio voice has stuck his foot in his mouth before, most notably commenting on Katherine Webb’s looks as the then-girlfriend of then-Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron during the broadcast of the 2013 BCS championship game.
Musburger joins Trump in mocking Elizabeth Warren
Now he’s jumping into the fray of ugly politics — particularly the racist politics of President Donald Trump who uses xenophobia and fear of other cultures to stoke his base, a tactic being leaned upon heavily ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections.
One of Trump’s favorite targets is Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), whom he mocks as “Pocahontas” for claiming Native American heritage.
When men wearing Native American headdresses stood behind Trump at his Saturday political rally in Bozeman, Montana, Musburger took his shot.

ESPN apologized in 2013
ESPN apologized for Musburger’s 2013 comments about Webb, which were benign compared to the racially-tinged content of his recent Twitter post.
“We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test,” a 2013 ESPN statement read. “However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.”
Will NFL, Raiders respond?
So far, there’s been no comment from the Raiders or the NFL on Musburger. And we shouldn’t expect any.
NFL owners have proven themselves terrified of Trump, allowing him to dictate the league’s national anthem policy in the wake of players kneeling during the anthem to protest social injustice and racial inequity.
The last thing they want to do — Raiders owner Mark Davis in particular — is poke the president when he’s in full-on politics mode.
In the meantime, the Raiders continue their downward spiral in the race to become the league’s most dysfunctional franchise.
Having a radio voice who shares racist political tropes fits the bill.
