No. 4 Texas Women’s Basketball Dominates SEMO in Home Opener

The No. 4 Texas Longhorns kicked off their season with a 119-47 win over Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) on Sunday at Moody Center. This victory marked Texas' 13th consecutive home opener win, establishing a strong start to the 2024-25 season.

The Longhorns (1-0) showcased it's depth and firepower, with six players scoring in double figures and 11 players contributing points. Texas outscored SEMO 66-29 in the first half and extended the lead to 53-18 in the second half, finishing with a statement victory.

Returning from a season-ending knee injury, junior Rori Harmon delivered a standout performance with 10 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and two steals in her first game in 326 days. Junior Kyla Oldacre led all scorers with 21 points and recorded 14 rebounds, while sophomore Madison Booker notched an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double and six assists. Taylor Jones went 8-for-8 from the field, contributing 18 points and five steals, with Bryanna Preston and Shay Holle each adding 11 points.

The Longhorns’ defensive pressure was a key factor, forcing SEMO into 33 turnovers, from which Texas scored 37 points. The Longhorns also dominated inside, outscoring the RedHawks 86-18 in the paint and outrebounding them 59-24.

Texas kept the pressure high, holding SEMO to 29.5 percent shooting, and used two extended runs—a 7-0 burst to end the first quarter and a 12-0 run in the second—to control the game early. Texas built a 34-15 lead by the end of the first quarter, extending to 58-24 by halftime.

The team’s 119 points were the fifth-highest in program history, underscoring the Longhorns' offensive efficiency and depth. Senior Shay Holle tied her career-high with six assists, while Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda contributed with six points, six steals, and five rebounds.

The Longhorns now turn their attention to the next matchup against Lamar on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Moody Center, with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
