A bad weekend at Minute Maid Park didn't get any better for the Texas baseball team Sunday.

No. 15 Texas was unable to hold on to an eight-run lead in a 14-11 loss to No. 9 Vanderbilt in the Longhorns’ final game at the Astros Foundation College Classic. At the Houston-held showcase this weekend, the Longhorns (7-4) also were on the losing ends of 6-3 and 11-10 contests against No. 3 LSU and Texas State.

Texas hit four home runs over the first four innings Sunday, two of them by outfielder Porter Brown, as the Longhorns quickly built an 11-3 lead. But that early edge would eventually evaporate. Vanderbilt chased Texas starter Cody Howard in the fifth inning, and the Commodores then worked their way through the UT bullpen. Facing the fifth Texas pitcher of the day, Vanderbilt took a 12-11 lead on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and added two more runs in the eighth. Seven Texas pitchers allowed 15 hits.

The Longhorns won't have much time to lick their wounds. Texas hosts No. 7 Texas A&M on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field and then will head to Lubbock this weekend to open conference play at No. 18 Texas Tech.
