Goalies

Justus Annunen, COL vs. ANA (14% rostered)

We've seen enough of Alexandar Georgiev, yes? The truth is, not all of the blame should be placed on him, but he's clearly not the solution right now. Kaapo Kahkonen is still getting his visa figured out, which leaves Annunen, who has made two appearances in relief but yet to start a game.

That Annunen is already rostered in 14 percent of Yahoo leagues says a lot about the Avs' goalie situation. We knew Georgiev was coming off a mediocre season, but most (including me) had pegged him to bounce back, not regress even further.

This is a good matchup as any to see what Annunen has; the Ducks have a talented young lineup but they don't always have an easy time scoring, and the Avs have dominated this matchup in recent years, losing only twice in regulation in their past 19 matchups since 2020.

Joel Blomqvist, PIT vs. CAR (6% rostered)

It's about time, right? Tristan Jarry was pulled Wednesday against the Sabres after allowing three goals on five shots before getting replaced by Blomqvist, who stopped 26 of 28 shots in a comeback win for the Pens.

This is not an easy matchup but the Pens already look much better now than they did at the beginning of the season, and the Canes have played so sparingly so far — this will be just their third game — you hope they're a little rusty. Blomqvist has a .913 SP through three appearances and truly looks like the Pens' best option in net right now. I'm not so confident in this matchup, but if Blomqvist has a strong showing, the Pens have to really consider sitting Jarry going forward until he finds his game, or when Alex Nedeljkovic returns from his minor-league rehab assignment.

Eric Comrie, WPG vs. SJ (1% rostered)

I'm only fearful of this start because Comrie has not shown he can be a good goalie at this level. He won the backup role partly because Kahkonen was claimed on waivers but this matchup against the Sharks should be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel... right?

Connor Hellebuyck has started every single game so far this season and with a Sunday matinee against the Pens, this is a good opportunity to throw in Comrie to see what he can do. The Sharks are playing the second game of a back-to-back with a roster that's a little banged up; Macklin Celebrini is not eligible to come off IR just yet and William Eklund admitted after Thursday's loss that he was a little banged up.

The lack of options on a light slate means that fantasy managers may have to settle for some riskier options, and Comrie's definitely one of them even though the Jets hold a distinct advantage.
