Report: Washington QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to miss 8 weeks, avoid surgery 'for now'
Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to miss eight weeks after further examination of his hip subluxation, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday. He will also reportedly avoid having surgery.
From NFL Now: After undergoing a battery of tests and seeking several expert opinions, Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will attempt to rehab his hip without surgery for now, sources say. He’s expected to miss about 8 weeks. Taylor Heinicke into November, at least. pic.twitter.com/jSxIbu71j6

According to Rapoport, Fitzpatrick considered having surgery but opted to rehab his hip without it — "for now." That "for now" seems a little ominous, and presumably the possibility of surgery will be revisited at some point if Fitzpatrick's hip isn't healing well enough.
Fitzpatrick injured his hip in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He didn't return after he left the game, and backup Taylor Heinicke took his place. Heinicke will be handling QB duties for at least the next eight weeks, and possibly more. If the non-surgical rehab option doesn't work out for Fitzpatrick, we might be seeing Heinicke for even longer.
