NFL statement on Robert Kraft: 'Our personal conduct policy applies to everyone'
While a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County, Florida, told media outlets Robert Kraft and the other men accused of soliciting prostitution in a massage parlor could be formally charged as early as Monday, the NFL has sent out a statement on Kraft through one of its media employees.
Reading between the lines, it seems likely Kraft will be punished by the league at some point.
‘Applies equally to everyone’
Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, this is the statement:
“Our Personal Conduct Policy applies equally to everyone in the NFL. We will handle this allegation in the same way we would handle any issue under the Policy.
“We are seeking a full understanding of the facts, while ensuring that we do not interfere with an ongoing law enforcement investigation. We will take appropriate action as warranted based on the facts.”
Kraft is facing two counts of solicitation of prostitution and a warrant will be issued for his arrest.
There is precedent for Kraft to be punished: Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was fined $500,000 and suspended six games after he was arrested on drug charges in 2014.
Not laying low
In a statement on Friday, a Kraft spokesman said, “We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity.” Police say they have Kraft on video at Orchids of Asia massage parlor on two occasions; a months long sting has uncovered an alleged international human trafficking ring, with officials saying women were told they would have jobs available in the United States when they left their native China, and instead were forced into a form of sexual slavery.
Despite the specter of the charges and an arrest warrant, Kraft reportedly didn’t lay low over the weekend, attending pre-Oscars parties in Los Angeles.
