NFL playoffs: What's at stake for spots, seeding and division titles in Week 18?

Who's in: Bills, Steelers, Texans and Packers; who's out: Jaguars, Saints and Seahawks

First, let's offer a hearty congratulations to the teams that had their playoff seeding wrapped up going into Week 18.

Here were the teams whose only question was whether to rest starters in this final week of the regular season:

• AFC No. 1 seed Baltimore Ravens

• AFC No. 3 seed Kansas City Chiefs

• AFC No. 5 seed Cleveland Browns

• NFC No. 1 seed San Francisco 49ers

In addition, the Detroit Lions have clinched the NFC North, and the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys have clinched playoff spots.

That left a lot of intrigue for the rest of the NFL. There were 20 teams that either clinched or were alive for a playoff spot going into Week 18. Half of the eight division titles were unsettled. Since only four seeds were locked up, that meant 10 were not claimed yet.

Here's everything at stake and what was claimed in the NFL playoff race going into the finales.

Bills take AFC East title and No. 2 seed

The Bills' defeat of the Dolphins on Sunday night earned them the AFC East championship and the conference's No. 2 seed.

The Bills avoided an elimination scenario and clinched a postseason berth on the Jaguars' upset loss to the Titans earlier Sunday.

The Dolphins fell to the No. 6 seed and must face the Chiefs at Arrowhead on Saturday.

Texans claim AFC South title and No. 4 seed on Jaguars' stunning defeat

Entering Saturday, there was a three-way tie for first place in the AFC South. The Jaguars had tiebreaker edges due to their having just one divisional loss, and they could've won the division with a victory over the Titans on Sunday.

Instead, they fumbled the opportunity and were eliminated from the postseason hunt with their 28-20 road loss to the Titans.

The Texans clinched the AFC South with the combination of a road victory against the Colts and the Jaguars' defeat.

The Colts were eliminated from the postseason field with Saturday's defeat.

AFC wild-card spots include Steelers clinching

Entering the weekend, there were two wild-card spots (the Nos. 6 and 7 seeds) unclaimed. The Bills, Dolphins, Jaguars, Texans, Colts and Steelers were possibilities for those postseason tickets.

The Colts were eliminated from the running with Saturday night's defeat to the Texans. Meanwhile, the Texans earned the AFC South crown and the Jaguars were eliminated after losing to the Titans.

The Dolphins got the wild-card spot after losing in Miami on Sunday.

The Jaguars' defeat also helped the Steelers clinch a wild-card berth. The Steelers got in with the Jaguars' loss and their win over the Ravens in their regular-season finale on Saturday. They'll be the No. 7 seed and will face the Bills on the road.

Cowboys win NFC East and No. 2 seed

The Eagles' loss (and the officiating controversy that helped the Cowboys win last week) in Week 17 changed the NFC East race. The Cowboys took advantage and won the division after beating the Washington Commanders. They are the No. 2 seed in the NFC.

The Lions needed a win, and the Cowboys and Eagles to both lose to get the No. 2 seed. Since the Cowboys won, the Lions will settle for the No. 3 seed and will host the Rams in the wild-card round.

Bucs claim NFC South title and No. 4 seed

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the division with their 9-0 victory against the Carolina Panthers.

The NFC South champ is the No. 4 seed and will play the Eagles in the wild-card round.

Packers claim last NFC wild-card spot

The Eagles will be the No. 5 seed and play at the Buccaneers on wild-card weekend. The Rams will be the No. 6 seed after beating the San Francisco 49ers 21-20 on Sunday. That left one more spot up for grabs in the NFC, which the Packers took.

Green Bay beat the Chicago Bears 17-9 to clinch a wild-card berth.

The Saints, who defeated the Falcons on Sunday, needed losses from the Packers and Seahawks to make the postseason. They were eliminated on the Packers' victory.

The Seahawks were also eliminated from the postseason hunt on Green Bay's win.

The Vikings were eliminated on the Saints' victory and their defeat to the Lions.
