NFL playoffs: Date, time announced as Philadelphia Eagles face Tampa Bay in wild-card round

It wasn't the way the Eagles wanted to go into the playoffs ending the regular season with back-to-back losses to the Arizona Cardinals followed by the humiliating 27-10 loss to the Giants on Sunday.

The loss to the Giants relegated the Eagles (11-6) to the wild-card spot as the Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East.

The Eagles head into the postseason having lost five of six games. They will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-8) in Tampa next Monday at 8 p.m.

The Eagles beat the Bucs 25-11 on Sept. 25. The Bucs clinched the NFC South, and the No. 4 seed, with a 9-0 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Tampa Bay is led by Baker Mayfield at quarterback, in his first season replacing Tom Brady.

With the way the Eagles have played lately, and with injuries to both star wide receivers A.J. Brown (knee) and DeVonta Smith (ankle), that first game seems like a different season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (14) reaches for the pylon but is forced out by Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Josh Jobe (28) during an NFL football game on Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, in Tampa, Fla.

3 things to know about Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1. Eagles won the first meeting 25-11 on Sept. 25: That was probably the Eagles' best defensive performance of the season. They held the Buccaneers to 174 total yards, while the Eagles racked up 472 yards. Jalen Hurts threw for 277 yards, and D'Andre Swift had 130 yards rushing.

2. Delaware native stars at WR with Mike Evans: Chris Godwin went over 1,000 yards receiving for the fourth time in the last five seasons, eclipsing the mark in the season finale. Evans, meanwhile, has been one of the top receivers for several seasons. He came into the final game with 1,273 yards.

3. Bucs beat Eagles in the wild-card round in 2021-22 season: Jalen Hurts had one of his worst games in the Jan. 17, 2022, game against Tampa. He threw two interceptions as the Bucs, with Tom Brady at QB, took a 31-0 lead in the third quarter before cruising to a 31-15 win. After the game, Hurts had ankle surgery.
