Cardinals' Kliff Kingsbury clears COVID-19 protocols, will be back on sideline vs. Texans
Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury will return to the sideline on Sunday after missing last week's game due to COVID-19 protocols. The Cardinals (6-0) — 19.5-point favorites at BetMGM — host the Texans (1-5) in Week 7 in a late afternoon game.
Kingsbury was one of three in the organization to test positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns and missed the 37-14 win. Quarterbacks coach Cam Turner and defensive lineman Zach Allen also missed the game because of positive tests.
The club went into "enhanced mitigation protocols" and everyone was tested for COVID-19 daily no matter their vaccination status. Kingsbury tested negative again on Sunday morning to clear protocols and return to the sideline. He has not had symptoms.
He was not an in-person participant in practice all week, but was there virtually for meetings and the offensive game plan. The Cardinals prepared for him to not clear protocols in time to return on Sunday.
Wide receivers coach Spencer Whipple called the plays in the win last week and would have done so again Sunday if needed. The Cardinals are the league's last remaining undefeated team. They are 18-18-1 under Kingsbury in his three seasons has head coach.
