NFL Network analyst breaks down Payton Wilson's performance in Week 7
Payton Wilson was considered by many to be one of the top linebackers in the 2024 NFL Draft. Wilson more than proved himself in college, winning the coveted Butkus Award in 2023, which is presented to the nation's top linebacker. However, health concerns, particularly regarding previous ACL injuries from his high school football days, caused him to fall all the way to Pittsburgh with the 98th overall pick. With a consistent work ethic, nothing has stopped the rookie linebacker from making his presence felt on one of the best defenses in the league.
While Wilson has been a force on the field, he has been used sparingly—averaging about half the snaps of teammates LB Patrick Queen and LB Elandon Roberts. NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger breaks down Wilson's consistent play despite his limited playing time.
Pittsburgh does have a plethora of great inside linebackers on their current roster; however, Wilson’s play should earn him more opportunities in the rotation alongside Roberts and Queen heading into Week 8 against the New York Giants.
