NFL betting: Cooper Kupp has highest Super Bowl receiving total in recent history
Cooper Kupp has had a historic season. In 20 games combining the regular season and postseason, Kupp has 170 receptions, 2,333 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Kupp fell just short of breaking the regular-season record for both receptions and receiving yards, but when you add in the postseason, Kupp now holds the single-season record in both categories.
The previous reception record was Michael Thomas, who caught 156 passes over 16 regular-season games and one playoff game in 2019. The previous receiving yards record was held by Larry Fitzgerald, who had 1,977 receiving yards over 16 regular-season games and four postseason games in 2008.
Oddsmakers are struggling to keep up with Kupp
If you've been backing Cooper Kupp during his historic season, your wallet is certainly thicker than it was back in early fall.
Kupp has gone over 100 yards in 13 of 20 games this season. He's gone over 90 yards in 18 of 20 games. He has been the model of consistency en route to his record-breaking season. He's cashing his over at a very high rate, going over his receiving prop 15 times in 20 games.
Kupp has also scored in 14 of 20 games this season, which has made him an extremely profitable bet in the "anytime touchdown" market. Kupp is currently -165 to score in the Super Bowl.
With all of Kupp's success on the season, his receiving prop has been very high in recent weeks. Despite that, he's posted 325 yards in the last two weeks and is still cashing for his over bettors. Kupp's over/under for receiving yards in the Super Bowl is currently set at 102.5 yards. 97% of bettors at BetMGM are backing Kupp to go over the total.
Kupp's receiving yard prop is highest in recent history
While our data only goes back to 2004, it's believed that Cooper Kupp's 102.5 receiving yard total is the highest in Super Bowl history. It breaks a previous record set in last year's Super Bowl by Travis Kelce, who entered the game with an over/under of 98.5 receiving yards.
Kelce posted 133 receiving yards for the Chiefs in last year's Super Bowl, cashing the over ticket for his bettors. In four straight Super Bowls, the player with the highest receiving total pre-game has gone over his yardage prop. Overall since 2004, the player with the highest receiving yardage prop is 10-8 to the over.
Kupp's total might scare bettors off, as 102.5 receiving yards is quite a high number. However, the pressure of the big game hasn't slowed down top receiving options much.
