Sources: Meyers Leonard remains with Blazers
Seven-footer Meyers Leonard has signed a four-year, $41 million contract extension with the Portland Trail Blazers, league sources told The Vertical.
Leonard, a restricted free agent, has built his value as a stretch power forward with an ability to spread the floor and deliver a presence on the defensive boards.
Leonard is part of a core expected to compete for 50 victories in the Western Conference this season.
Leonard, 24, missed the final 20 regular-season games with a left shoulder surgery in 2015-16, but has shown steady improvement in the past two years after being selected at No. 11 overall in the 2012 NBA draft.
Leonard left the University of Illinois after two seasons.
The Blazers will make a formal decision on whether to match restricted free-agent guard Allen Crabbe’s four-year, $75 million offer sheet with Brooklyn. The Blazers have another restricted free agent, Maurice Harkless, whom they have an interest in keeping, too.
