Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon has been suspended for Thursday’s game against Iowa State, the school announced Tuesday evening.

While the school did not provide specific information about what led to the suspension, it did release a quote from Mixon where he apologized for being ill-tempered with parking attendants.

“I regret that I did not respond appropriately to parking attendants and understand and accept the consequences,” Mixon said.

According Mixon’s lawyer, which spoke with NewsOK.com, Mixon was given a parking citation, which he tore up in front of the parking attendant. The parking attendant filed a complaint with OUPD.

“He was frustrated, as most of us are when we get a ticket,” Mixon’s attorney Blake Johnson told NewsOK.com. “He tore the ticket up in front of the parking attendant, and threw it on the ground.”

Mixon is the Sooners leading rusher with 119 carries for 813 yards and five touchdowns. He’s carried the load for the Sooners in the past couple games as fellow running back Samaje Perine has recovered from a leg injury.

Mixon’s absence also will affect the passing game as he’s the team’s second-leading receiver with 24 catches for 357 yards and four touchdowns.

With Mixon and Perine out, freshman Abdul Adams, who has 41 carries for 215 yards, will see an increased workload against the Cyclones.
