Notre Dame cornerback Shaun Crawford is out for the season after suffering a torn Achilles in Saturday’s 39-10 win over Nevada, coach Brian Kelly announced.

Crawford was injured on the first defensive series of the game when he attempted to break up a pass. He left the field on crutches.

Crawford suffered an ACL tear first during fall camp last year and missed the season. However, he already was a star in the making this season after nabbing an interception and returning a blocked extra point for a score in the Irish’s loss against Texas in the season opener.

Crawford’s injury is another hit to an already depleted Notre Dame secondary. The team dismissed safety Max Redfield prior to the season after his arrest for misdemeanor drug and gun charges.
