NFL Combine Update: Huskies’ John Ross Runs a 4.22 40-yard dash

John Ross of the University of Washington Huskies ran a 4.22 40-yard dash at the combine on Saturday. In doing so, Ross broke the record of Chris Johnson who had run a 4.24. Also, Ross just possibly made himself a few million more dollars.

Ross had been projected to be a mid-first-to-second-round draft pick in many mock drafts. ESPN’s Todd McShay had Ross landing in the second round. For today’s performance, a first-round draft selection appears imminent for Ross.

Ross was a very productive receiver with the Huskies last season with 81 catches for 1.150 yards and 17 touchdowns. Ross, though, adds to his value with his ability to return kicks and punts. Teams like the Tennessee Titans need players like Ross. The Titans have two picks in the first round at number five and number 18. The Titans may decide that Ross might be available at 18 and take a cornerback at number five. Anything is possible after Ross’s Saturday which looked like this…

One of the question marks for Ross is health. He missed all of 2015 with injuries. Ross will also have shoulder surgery to clean up some issues after the combine, though he should be back for the beginning of training camp. However, after his 40-yard dash performance, along with an excellent 37” vertical jump and 133” broad jump, Ross showed that he is healthy enough for some to draft earlier than most have projected so far.

As far as the Seattle Seahawks are concerned, Ross may have upped his stock enough to no longer be a possibility. Although, 12s can still hope that Ross somehow ends up in Seattle and a few plays have receivers Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Paul Richardson and Ross all out wide with running back C.J. Prosise in the backfield. This is the stuff dreams are made of.
