Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame weekend is approaching quickly. In just a few days, Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza will officially become members of the illustrious club.

No Hall induction is complete without a speech from the inductees. These speeches can go a number of ways. Chicago White Sox first baseman Frank Thomas thanked over 100 of his former teammates during his speech. Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz took the opportunity to warn young kids about the dangers of Tommy John surgery. That’s the beauty of a Hall of Fame speech, you never know exactly what you’re going to get.

That might not be the case with New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza. The catcher appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently, and while he didn’t reveal the contents of his speech, he told the host that he’s definitely going to shed some tears.

As Piazza explains in the video, he’s already written his speech, and he’s made sure to practice it in front of the mirror. Apparently, that was enough to make him start crying. He had no audience, but he still got emotional. That will probably only get worse when thousands of people are watching and cheering him on in a few days.

The entire clip with Kimmel is amusing. The host makes sure to ask Piazza which one of his many facial hair styles he wants on his plaque. Piazza doesn’t exactly answer the question, but reveals why he’s going with a clean-shaven look these days.

Piazza also discusses how he found out he was inducted, and what that process was like the years he didn’t get in. Overall, it’s a fun look at the process and Piazza’s career.

If this interview is any indication, Piazza has the potential to deliver a pretty entertaining speech in a few days. We would be worried about putting pressure on him, but he dealt with that pretty well during his playing career.
