Michael Jordan says 'the ceiling is the roof' in UNC football and Jordan Brand partnership announcement

The 14-time all-star and six-time finals MVP led the Bulls to six NBA championships before retiring (for a second time) in 1998. He returned to Chicago three years later after signing with Washington, and in his first game back to the United Center — following a three-minute ovation from the Chicago faithful — MJ played 41 minutes, putting up 16 points and adding 12 rebounds as the Wizards defeated the Bulls 77-69. University of North Carolina brought out all the stops for its rivalry game against Duke on Monday night. So of course, NBA great and former Tar Heel Michael Jordan was in attendance and boy, did he make a statement.

Jordan was there to announce Jordan Brand’s extended partnership with UNC, which includes the football team’s switch new jumpman logo uniforms. At halftime, fans screamed as Jordan made his way to center court. But the announcement was a little lost after Jordan ended his speech saying that, “the ceiling is the roof.”

He was clearly trying to pump up the crowd, and technically the man isn’t wrong. The ceiling literally is the roof. But Twitter wasted no time trolling Jordan for his comment.

The good news for Carolina fans is that the Tar Heels walked away with a 90-83 win over the Blue Devils and the new football uniforms are probably going to be clean.
