McQueary testimony: Tom Bradley, Greg Schiano were aware of Sandusky abuse

Both Tom Bradley and Greg Schiano have denied the claims made in testimony by Mike McQueary.
“At no time did Tom Bradley ever witness any inappropriate behavior. Nor did he have any knowledge of alleged incidents in the 80’s and the 90’s. He has consistently testified as such,” a statement from Bradley’s representation said. “Any assertions to the contrary are false. When he became aware of the 2001 incident it had already been reported to the university administration years earlier.”
In response to deposition, Greg Schiano said: “I never saw any abuse, nor had reason to suspect any abuse, during my time at Penn State.”

Among the barrage of documents unsealed Tuesday related to Penn State’s ongoing civil case with its insurance company with respect to payments of Jerry Sandusky accusers was a potentially damning bit of testimony regarding two former PSU assistants who now coach at other schools.
Mike McQueary, a former Penn State assistant and quarterback, has testified on multiple occasions that he witnessed Jerry Sandusky with a young boy in a shower in Penn State’s football building in 2001. McQueary, who was a Penn State graduate assistant at the time, says he told Joe Paterno about what he witnessed. Paterno then is said to have moved the information up the chain of command to athletic director Tim Curley and senior vice president Gary Schultz.
Newly public documents show that in an Aug. 25, 2015 deposition (beginning on page 20), McQueary said he talked about what he had seen with Tom Bradley, a longtime PSU defensive assistant (from 1979-2011) who served as defensive coordinator from 2000-2011.
When Paterno was fired amid the Sandusky saga in November 2011, Bradley served as the Nittany Lions’ interim head coach for the final four games of the 2011 season. Bradley also played for Penn State as a defensive back under Paterno from 1975-1978.
Sandusky was a Penn State assistant from 1969-1999. He served as defensive coordinator from 1977 until his retirement after the 1999 season.
“I discussed, briefly, what I had seen. I can’t remember every single time Tom and I talked about Sandusky,” McQueary testified. “I mean, we lived together, the whole nine yards. So, you know, I’m sure we talked about several things.”
McQueary testified that Bradley, who is now the defensive coordinator at UCLA, was “not shocked” about what he had told him. And when asked if Bradley “had information concerning Sandusky and children,” McQueary said Bradley “said he knew of some things.”
“He said another assistant coach had come to him in the early ‘90s about a very similar situation to mine, and he said that he – someone had come to him as far back as the early ‘80s about seeing Jerry doing something with a boy,” McQueary testified.
McQueary then identified that coach as Greg Schiano.
Schiano was as assistant for the Nittany Lions from 1990-1995. He later went on to become the head coach at Rutgers from 2001-2011. He also had a two-year stint as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012 and 2013. He currently serves as Ohio State’s assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.
According to McQueary’s testimony, Bradley said Schiano once came into Bradley’s office “and said he just saw Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower.”
“And that’s it,” McQueary said. “That’s all (Bradley) ever told me.”
McQueary said Bradley also told him that “someone” saw Sandusky “doing something to a boy” in the 80’s. McQueary said he does not know if Bradley ever reported that information to anyone.
He said the conversation with Bradley happened after 2001, when McQueary says he witnessed Sandusky in a shower.
“Oh, it’s sometime after 2001, mid – when I say mid 2000s, meaning like 2005, ’06; it could have been anywhere in there. But I can’t remember an exact date at all.”
McQueary also testified that there were times when Bradley “would be upset and frustrated” about Sandusky being around the football facility.
“(Bradley) would be upset and frustrated about that. You know when I said before, I think you asked a question would I ever express if I was frustrated or complained about Jerry being around; it was probably both of us complaining to each other about it,” McQueary said.
