Former Cardinals exec sentenced to jail term for hacking Astros
Former St. Louis Cardinals scouting director Chris Correa must serve 46 months in prison for hacking into the Houston Astros’ computer system to access the team’s player data and scouting notes.
Correa pled guilty to hacking the Astros’ network in January and was sentenced on Monday, receiving the exact term suggested by the prosecution.
Correa allegedly used old passwords from Houston GM Jeff Luhnow when he was working in St. Louis. When Luhnow moved on to Houston, he apparently continued to use the same personal passwords, making it easy for Correa to succeed in hacking the organization.

St. Louis fired Correa in July 2015 after first placing him on a leave of absence. Correa must report to jail to begin serving his sentence at some point in the next 2-6 weeks.
It is expected that Major League Baseball will punish the St. Louis organization in some way for the hacking scandal, but it is not clear what the punishment will be or when it will be handed down.
