BOSTON – The Celtics announced Saturday that All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas will miss the remainder of the season after re-aggravating a hip injury.

Thomas underwent tests for a sore right hip after Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, Celtics president Danny Ainge confirmed to The Vertical on Friday night. The tests revealed an impingement in the hip with a labral tear. Thomas did not play in the second half of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals on Friday because of the injury.

The hip issue was considered significant enough that Thomas’ availability for Game 7 of the East semis against the Wizards was in doubt. Thomas played 40 minutes in Boston’s series-clinching win, scoring 29 points.

Cleveland blew out Boston 130-86 on Friday, taking a 2-0 series lead. Game 3 is Sunday in Cleveland.
