4-star recruit says he received letter from Ohio State addressed to wrong first name
When you’re recruiting a lot of players, it can apparently be hard to get everyone’s name straight.
Four-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland got a letter from Ohio State. But the letter was addressed to Jason.
Copeland sent a picture of the letter to Rivals.com. He’s having some hesitation about the school now too, though we’re pretty sure Ohio State didn’t mess his name up on purpose. From Rivals:
Asked if he would still consider the Buckeyes despite the mail blunder, Copeland responded via text.
“Lol man I don’t even know,” he wrote. “That made me think twice.”
Copeland is the No. 33 wide receiver in the class of 2018 and the No. 39 recruit in the state of Florida according to Rivals.
But Ohio State probably shouldn’t sweat losing out on Copeland just yet. Defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon decommitted from Michigan in August after he got a thank-you letter from the school for attending a recruiting barbecue that he and his family never attended.
The mess up clearly wasn’t too big of a deal. Solomon signed with the Wolverines on National Signing Day.
Michigan goofed in 2014 while recruiting another athlete too. The school sent running back Mike Weber a fake ESPN magazine cover that misspelled the word “American” on the front. Weber, perhaps not-so-coincidentally for Michigan fans, ended up signing with Ohio State.
In case you were wondering, Copeland has an offer from Michigan per his Rivals profile. We’re anxious to see if Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh pounces on Ohio State’s goof.
