Yankees pitcher Luis Severino out six weeks with lat strain
New York Yankees star Luis Severino won’t be back on the mound anytime soon.
An MRI on Tuesday revealed that he has a Grade 2 lat strain, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, and will not throw for at least six weeks.

Severino was sidelined to start the season due to inflammation in his right shoulder and missed opening day, where he was slated to kick off the Yankees’ season. The lat strain, however, is a separate issue — which the team believes he sustained while attempting to rehab his initial shoulder injury, via NJ.com.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Monday that Severino “didn’t feel great” after his latest throwing session at the team’s practice facility in Florida, which prompted the MRI.
The 25-year-old pitcher signed a four-year, $40 million extension in February. He finished ninth in the AL Cy Young voting last season, posting a 3.39 ERA with 220 strikeouts and 46 walks over 191.1 innings. He went 19-8 in 32 starts, and made the All-Star team for the second-straight year.
