Game 5 line shifts heavily toward Jazz after news of Kawhi Leonard's knee injury
Kawhi Leonard’s knee injury has caused a massive shift in the Game 5 betting line at BetMGM.
Leonard is set to miss Wednesday night’s game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz after suffering a sprained right knee late in the Clippers’ Game 4 win. That Game 4 win tied the series at 2-2.
The Jazz were 2.5-point home favorites over the Clippers on Tuesday night ahead of the game. After news broke that Leonard would miss the game Wednesday morning, the betting line shifted considerably. The Jazz are now favored by seven points — that’s a 4.5-point shift.
The Clippers are now +230 to win straight up while a moneyline bet on the Jazz is just -300.
Los Angeles said Wednesday morning that there’s no timetable for Leonard’s return. He could miss the rest of the series. With two games to go in Utah — if the Clippers and Jazz split Game 5 and Game 6 — the Jazz are now -275 to win the entire series. If you think the Clippers can come back with or without Leonard in Game 6 and Game 7, you can get Los Angeles to win the series at +225.
Those are the same odds that the Milwaukee Bucks have to win their series with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets went up 3-2 with a Game 5 win thanks to a massive performance from Kevin Durant.
The biggest underdog to win a series are the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks are +240 to win their series against the Philadelphia 76ers despite tying the series earlier in the week. The Sixers are -300 to take two of the next three games and move on to face either the Nets or Bucks in the Eastern Conference finals.
The winner of the Jazz and Clippers series will advance to play the Phoenix Suns. The Suns are hoping the series goes to seven games after the news that Chris Paul is out indefinitely because of the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
