Nats OF prospect Robles (elbow) won't need surgery
Washington Nationals top outfield prospect Victor Robles might return this season and will not require season-ending surgery.
The Nationals feared he would miss the rest of the year when Robles injured his elbow trying to make a diving catch in a game at Triple-A Syracuse.
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said that Robles' injury will not require surgery and his recovery timetable "looks like months."
"There's no tear," said Martinez. "He's got good strength. So we're hoping to get him back, maybe not for a couple of months. He's still going to have a long recovery, but it's not going to be as long as we thought. The good news is there's no tear."
Robles is widely considered a top-10 MLB prospect. He struggled with the Nationals in spring training, hitting .188 with 12 strikeouts in 48 at-bats across 21 games before he was optioned to Triple-A.
With Syracuse, Robles has hit .385 (5-for-13) in four games. He made his major league debut last season, hitting .250 with two triples and four RBIs in 24 at-bats.
