Nate Oats on Alabama basketball: 'We don't storm the court here. We expect to win games'

Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats was part of a few court-stormings when he coached at Buffalo, but he's glad to be done with them now.

At least as the home coach.

In the wake of Duke center Kyle Filipowski getting injured in a court-storming at Wake Forest last weekend, Oats was asked about the issue Friday. The Crimson Tide (20-8, 12-3 SEC) plays host to rival Tennessee (22-6, 12-3 SEC) on Saturday with first place in the SEC at stake, and with ESPN's "College GameDay" making its debut in Tuscaloosa, fan anticipation will run high.

But Oats is sure it won't run high enough for fans to storm the court if Alabama recaptures the top of the league standings.

"We don't storm the court here. We expect to win games. We've won a lot of big games here (without a storming)," Oats said. "Our fans are unbelievably great, they give us a great environment to win games, (they) act like they've been here and done that. We've beaten plenty of good teams in this building since I've been here. I like the way it's been here."

Oats noted that big home wins when he coached at Buffalo could trigger a court-storming, and UA was on the visiting end of one last season when the Crimson Tide, then ranked No. 1 in the nation, lost at Texas A&M.

"What we did at A&M last year is, the league title had already been determined, we went there, we were trying to win, but we let their staff know that if they ended up winning the game, which is what ended up happening, that we were not going to stick around and shake hands," Oats said. "We were getting off the court immediately, which is what happened. We avoided any issues."

As for Filipowski, who's injury was minor, Oats recognized that something should be done.

"If players are getting hurt, they need to do something about it," he added.
