Nashville Predators trade Tanner Jeannot to Tampa Bay Lightning, get 5 draft picks in deal
Not long after the team announced general manager David Poile was retiring and Barry Trotz had been hired Sunday, the team had more news.
They traded forward Tanner Jeannot to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a first-rounder in 2025, a second in 2024, a third , fourth and fifth-rounder in 2023, and defenseman Cal Foote late Sunday night.
Jeannot, who will be a restricted free agent after this season, missed Sunday's game against the Arizona Coyotes for "trade-related reasons," according to the team. This a day after forward Nino Niederreiter was traded to the Winnipeg Jets.
Jeannot, who is known also for his physicality, has 34 goals and 28 assists in 152 games with the Predators, including 24 goals last season.
"He's a great teammate," Predators coach John Hynes said. "He's a good player. He brings a lot of attributes to your team. ... He's in it to win it and he plays hard every night. He comes to work."
Poile told The Tennessean on Saturday after the Niederreiter deal that selling was the route the team was going.
"I think most teams know we're open-minded to listening," he said. "I'm not going to make a trade just to make a trade. I'm going to do something that I think takes us in the right direction. I think this is a fair trade for both teams."
