Nashville Predators overpowered in 4-1 loss to streaking Edmonton Oilers

The Nashville Predators were not nearly good enough to break the Edmonton Oilers' winning streak on Saturday.

The Oilers winning streak is up to 16 games after the Predators' 4-1 loss at Rogers Place.

The Oilers' top line was buzzing throughout the game, though it only paid off on the power play early. Edmonton got on the board with a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins power play goal (assists from Leon Draisitl and Connor McDavid) at 7:55 of the first period after a Jeremy Lauzon penalty.

Midway through the second period, the Oilers power play struck again with McDavid teeing up Draisaitl for a goal with Lauzon again in the box.

Connor McDavid, who had three points in the game, scored his 20th goal of the season early in the third period to push the Edmonton lead to 3-0.

Nashville actually led in shot totals throughout the game, but it didn't have a large number of high-danger opportunities outside of a shot off the post early in the second period. Colton Sissons' consolation goal at 13:25 of the third period was the lone production by the Predators attack. Edmonton's Zach Hyman scored an empty-net goal late in the third period to provide the final margin.

Kevin Lankinen saved 17 of 20 shots for the Predators in his first start since Jan. 12. Stuart Skinner saved 29 of 30 shots.

Nashville has two more games until the All-Star break, including Monday's game at Ottawa.

Oilers 3, Predators 0 at 9:12 of the third period: Connor McDavid's 20th goal of the year

Oilers 2, Predators 0 at 11:39 of the second period: Oilers power play strikes again

Jeremy Lauzon is back in the penalty box, and Edmonton is back on the scoreboard 27 seconds later. Connor McDavid finds Leon Draisaitl in the tight slot for the power play goal. It was Draisaitl's 800th career point.

Lauzon was called for tripping penalty, and Edmonton takes advantage for a 2-0 lead.

Oilers 1, Predators 0 at 7:55 of the first period: Edmonton takes lead on the power play

Edmonton takes an early lead on the power play. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finishes in front of Lankinen after a sustained pressure by the Oilers' top power play. McDavid and Draisaitl get the assists.

Edmonton's power play is a problem, but that's not a new revelation.

That followed a Jeremy Lauzon holding penalty, which the Predators must limit.

Corey Perry will make debut with Oilers

Corey Perry, released by the Blackhawks after he was found in violation of his contract and team policies, was signed by Edmonton on Monday and will make his debut on Saturday.

Perry, the longtime Anaheim Ducks forward, will play for team No. 6 when he hits the ice Saturday, and ever the target of Predators fans' disdain.

Kevin Lankinen in net for the Predators

Kevin Lankinen is in net for the first time since Jan. 12 on Saturday. Stuart Skinner is Edmonton's goaltender today.

Tyson Barrie and Philip Tomasino are the Predators scratches.
