What Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz said about Tyson Barrie's trade request
Will Barry Trotz trade Tyson Barrie in the near future?
Trotz, the Nashville Predators general manager, could hold the answer to that question when it comes to the Predators-for-now defenseman.
For the first time in his 13-year career, Barrie was a healthy scratch Saturday. The next day, for the second time in his 13-year-career, Barrie was a healthy scratch.
The scratchings, it turns out, came after Barrie's itch to be traded came about. The team responded by telling him he could see opportunities elsewhere.
None of that information was supposed to be for public consumption, apparently.
Trotz expressed frustration and disappointment Tuesday during an interview on 102.5-FM, saying he didn't appreciate the news leaking. That "four people knew" about the request.
"I didn't like the way he reacted to it," Trotz told the station.
He also echoed coach Andrew Brunette in talking about Barrie's play so far this season.
"Tyson's game hasn't translated as well as we had liked with us this year," Trotz said, basically the same thing Brunette said before Saturday's game.
Trotz added that Barrie was "having a tough time not being on the first power play" and said he "wasn't quite fitting in."
The 32-year-old was back in the lineup for Tuesday's victory against the Chicago Blackhawks. He recorded his 500th career point in the process.
But it might be one of his last point in a Predators uniform.
Barrie was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers last season in a deal that sent longtime Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm out of town.
Barrie has zero goals and 10 assists in 23 games this season. He had three goals and nine assists in 24 games with Nashville last season.
