NASCAR starting lineup today: Cup Series grid for Grant Park 165 at Chicago set for Sunday

How the NASCAR Cup Series field will finish in its second foray into street racing in Chicago remains to be seen.

But as of early Saturday afternoon, we know how they'll start.

Kyle Larson earned the pole position during Cup Series qualifying for Sunday's Grant Park 165, turning in a lap of 1:27.836 to edge Ty Gibbs by 0.01 seconds. Michael McDowell, Tyler Reddick and Shane van Gisbergen rounded out the top five.

"That was pretty awesome," Larson said. "Really awesome to get a pole here in Chicago. Usually have a lot of success with this red Valvoline scheme. That gives you a lot of confidence, for sure."

Last year, van Gisbergen won his first Cup Series start at the Chicago Street Course. He also earned the pole for Saturday afternoon's Xfinity Series race. Larson will start second.
