NASCAR QNA: Kyle Larson proved something, but was Indy-Charlotte double worth the trouble?

What did Kyle Larson prove with his ill-fated attempt at the double?

Nothing we didn't already know: It's now obvious he can compete in any type of racing.

But he also proved he's very human with two fractional mistakes — one that cost him some spots early at Indy (a missed shift on a restart) and the other (pit-lane speeding) that effectively ended his hopes of a top-five finish, which was looking like a real possibility.

He got to lead four laps during a cycle of green-flag stops, and that must've been a slight thrill. Find him some more seat time to iron out the small but important kinks, and he could (and should) go back next year and hope for better weather.

But is the Indy-Charlotte double worth the trouble?

If the race points and potential bonus points Kyle missed at Charlotte cost him later this season, they'd have to rethink things.

It's been 50 years since Indy permanently moved its 500 to the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, where Charlotte's 600 has been parked since the mid-'60s.

Due to several concerns (including the networks' preference for Sundays, of course) it's hard to imagine either race moving to Saturday or Monday, which would better facilitate a moonlighter racing both events.

Though it wouldn't have helped Sunday, a 30-minute move on each end — earlier at Indy, later at Charlotte — would sure bring more sanity to the logistics.
