NASCAR at Indy brings a bad break for Ryan Blaney but not Kyle Larson | Speed Freaks

Did Ryan Blaney get a bum deal on the final restart at Indy?

KEN'S CALL: First-place Brad Keselowski drops out for fuel, third-place Kyle Larson gets to move up to the coveted inside-front-row spot for the restart, with "new leader" Blaney helpless on Larson's outside. "You do the math," as Mikey would say. At minimum, this is a procedural practice worth revisiting.

RYAN'S RAMBLE: Yeah, I think the protocol is definitely in need of a review, though by the letter of the law, it seems as if NASCAR made the correct move. I'm more miffed about the ending. Ryan Preece clearly had flat tires and his car was immobilized before the white flag waved. I cannot figure out the timing of the race-ending caution.

What's your overall review of returning the Brickyard 400 to Indy's oval?

KEN'S CALL: Saturday's finish to the Xfinity Series race was as good as it gets and Riley Herbst helped his future employment possibilities, you'd think. Sunday, though, was more drama than theatrics, given Brad Keselowski's fuel stretch. The craziest action, unfortunately but somewhat predictably, was on restarts.

RYAN'S RAMBLE: Again, I'll point you to last year's Brickyard on the road course and you tell me this wasn't a better race than that. It's no Kansas or Atlanta, but the strategy of it all made it interesting at the very least. I'm glad to see it back and I hope it stays.
