Myles Garrett voted Defensive Player of the Year by Pro Football Writers Association

BEREA — Myles Garrett's season earned him the first of potentially several awards on Wednesday.

The Pro Football Writers Association selected the Browns star defensive end as the Defensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the PFWA membership. Garrett is the first Browns player to win the award since it was created in 1992.

Garrett was previously selected to the All-Pro team by the PFWA, which was announced Monday. He was also chosen to the Associated Press All-Pro first team on Jan. 12.

The AP's Defensive Player of the Year award winner will be announced during the NFL Honors event on Feb. 8 in Las Vegas.

Garrett played in 16 games this season, sitting out the regular-season finale at Cincinnati with the rest of the Browns starters. He finished with a team-best 14 sacks, four forced fumbles and 42 total tackles, including 33 solo stops.

Along with the sacks and tackles, Garrett also had 17 tackles for loss and 30 quarterbacks hits. He blocked a field goal in the Browns' Week 7 win at Indianapolis, for which he was awarded the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award.
