Mya Jones becomes first Memphis women's soccer player selected in NWSL draft

Mya Jones has made history.

Jones became the first Memphis women's soccer player to be selected in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) draft on Friday night, going to the San Diego Wave in the third round.

She was the 14th pick of the 3rd round and 42nd overall. The Wave were the top team in last year's regular season but lost in the playoffs to OL Reign.

Jones played five seasons for the Tigers and helped lead the program to sustained success. She won American Athletic Conference offensive player of the year in 2023 and led the Tigers to both the AAC regular-season and tournament titles. The Tigers fell in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Calgary, Alberta, native had nine goals and 11 assists in 2023, leading the conference in assists and points. She finished her Memphis career with 26 goals and 27 assists in 93 matches.

The 2024 NWSL season will kick off in March.
